Arianna Huffington was  born in Athens, Greece on July 15, 1950. She is a Greek American author, syndicated columnist, and occasional actress. She is the daughter of Konstantinos (a journalist and management consultant) and Elli  Stasinopoulou, and is the sister of Agapi (an author, speaker and performer). She migrated  to the United Kingdom at the early age of 16, and studied economics at Girton College, Cambridge, where she was the first foreign, and third female President of the Cambridge Union.

Huffington developed craze in  writing books in the 1970s, with editorial help from Bernard Levin.  They both traveled to music festivals around the world for the BBC.  At the age of 30, she falled deeply in love with him.

In one of her articles she declared that Bernard was not only her role model and mentor, but also the greatest love in her life. According to some sources, the only reason why in the early 1980 Huffington decided to break up with Levin and moved to live to New York was that unlike her lover, she wanted to get married and have children.

Career and Personal Life

She like to write stories from his childhood. In 1973, Arianna wrote a book titled The Female Woman, attacking the Women’s Liberation movement. In the late 1980s, she wrote several articles for National Review.  Her next major release was the biography of probably the greatest female opera singer in 20th century, Greek soprano Maria Callas. The book was entitled Maria Callas – The Woman Behind the Legend.

Huffington met her future husband Michael Huffington in 1985. They were married a year later, on April 12, 1986. They later moved to Santa Barbara, California, in order  to run in 1992 as a Republican for a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives, which he won by a significant margin.

Arianna with her daughters

Arianna – this  amazing woman  building a non-stop empire – got the same lesson both from her mother : ‘be present’; be present in the moment, enjoy it and don’t worry about what tomorrow brings.

They have two daughters, Isabella and christina. She inspires her children to be brave and to go chase their dreams. She believes that failure is not the opposite of success but it is part of success. She wants her daughters to know that the universe – or whatever you want to call it – is there to support them and is not against them.
