Yesterday, news broke that Andela, a Lagos-based company that helps to train thousands of developers in Africa was getting an investment from the Chan-Zuckerberg Initiative (CZI) founded by Zuckerberg and his wife Priscilla Chan. This move has made Andela the first major recipient from the foundation since its launch in December, 2015
The amount?
They are closing a $24 million Series B round—with the Chan-Zuckerberg Initiative (CZI) leading the round. Also, GV (formerly Google Ventures) joins this round, along with the early Twitter investor Spark Capital, the Omidyar Network, and the San Francisco-based Learn Capital, which all participated in Andela’s first round.
With this investment, Andela which was Founded by Iyinoluwa Aboyeji and Jeremy Johnson plans to open an office in a third African country before the end of the year. They are also looking to double the 40,000 developers that have been trained by the organization.
